There is power in numbers – the more members we have – the more impact we can show to national foundations as
we tackle our pet overpopulation problem and the more sponsorship we can secure from regional and national
Corporate donors wishing to tap into the marketing impact of Tennessee’s pet owners.

The pet loving public spent $38.4 Billion in 2006 according to the American of Pet Product Manufactures Association
estimates.  Yet historically, the animal welfare industry, coupled with the environmentalists, have consistently fallen to
the bottom of the barrel when it comes to charitable giving - garnering one of the smallest percentage of American’s
charitable dollars.  But the times they are a changing…according to Giving USA’s 2006 Report (the most recent
statistical data on the nation’s charitable giving) the animal welfare industry and the environment saw an increase of
16% in charitable contributions in 2005.  The problems that industry insiders have known for so long are finally
beginning to gain some attention both in the media and in the public mindset.  But we still have a long way to go
before we can tap into the billions secured by the for-profits – alone none of us have the ability to compete with or
even copy the marketing strategies that the for-profit pet industry has been so successful with.  But together -
presenting a united front both in public education and in securing funding - we have power in numbers. Each of us as
individual agencies and volunteer groups can’t be heard outside of Whoville – but if we yell at the tops of our lungs in
unison – we have a best chance of being heard.

There are several hundred animal welfare agencies in Tennessee, and an innumerable number of volunteer groups
that operate education, transportation and rescue programs across the state.  You know who you are - dedicated
individuals working tirelessly to tackle the pet overpopulation problem with limited time, limited resources and even
less funding.  Well - The ARC is here to Help!
